The problem with being ordinary

I wrote this article for Caribbean Axis Professional last week, and it underscores an issue that we at Caribbean Ideas think about alot. The fact that it’s not enough to grow a company that is simply Caribbean class. Check it out here http://bit.ly/ffEzIo

As Caribbean businesses, we need to really think about how we build competencies and capabilities that not only put us at the forefront of our local industries, but also set us up to compete at a global level.

This applies not only to our work in driving sales and profits, but also in the ways we interact with and engage our customers.  As Caribbean people and marketers, we often can get away with things that businesses around the world can’t because of a lower intensity of competition, or lower expectations from customers.

The best businesses however, know not to let themselves get complacent at any time, and find ways to streamline processes all the way through, in order to create the best experience they possibly can. And then they don’t stop working until they refine and perfect things.

That’s the true challenge for Caribbean businesses today, because the world truly is flat, and to succeed long term, you can’t just be  Caribbean class anymore, you have to be GLOBAL class…

A new spin on things for the career-oriented Caribbean person

Hello all,

In late November, we released in public beta, a project we’ve been working on for some time. A revamp of our vision for a new service for career-oriented Caribbean professionals & students all around the world.

That service, branded as Caribbean Axis Professional, aims to address 3 challenges that all of us career-focused Caribbean people face:

1. Connection: It’s just harder than it should be to find and connect with other people of Caribbean descent doing interesting things in your field and beyond.

2. Information: Where do we go for career-related information for Caribbean people. Hopefully as of now, you’ll start including Carib Axis Pro in that list.

3. Opportunities: We haven’t fully tackled this yet, among the features included in our public beta, but again, we wanted a place where you could find out about the best job opportunities, find great service providers and build business relationships and more.

Check it out today. Click this link to visit Caribbean Axis Professional, and make sure to let us know your feedback and how we can improve it.

Welcome

Welcome to the Caribbean Ideas Blog to go along with our new website.

At Caribbvean Ideas we’re working to build a new type of Caribbean company, one that is based on the principles of a “flat world” .

Our mission, is quite simply to play a part in connecting the Caribbean World. We want to connect Caribbean people to each other, and to information that is most relevant to us.

To do that, we embrace digital technologies as much as possible, and on this blog we’ll share our journey as young entrepreneurs, as marketers, and as technologists.
